Kelli Angevine

Kuumba Education Co-Founder

Kelli, originally an auto industry executive from the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan, completed her MBA at Harvard in 1996 and shortly after migrated to Europe, where she was able to intersect her professional experience in business capabilities and marketing with her interest in education. She taught for several years before working with St Martins School in Kibagare, Nairobi. Since 2013, Kelli has worked on technology-enabled, sustainable, leverageable empowerment models to improve the livelihood of children and young female adults living in extreme poverty in East Africa. Recently, she co-founded Kuumba Education and acted as the scholarships first Title Sponsor.

Hollie Suffield

Kuumba Education Co-Founder

Hollie Suffield has been working in the technology industry at Salesforce for nearly 7 years. Through Salesforce, she got involved with the Karibu Centre near Nairobi, a progressive community-based organization helping children and families living in the slums of Thika, Kenya. Hollie was lucky enough to live and work in Kenya for over a year supporting the Karibu Centre's volunteering program. It was during this year that she met and also joined the team at St Martins. Her passion for people and skills development has given her the opportunity to shift her career path at Salesforce and Hollie now leads the Talent Programs effort in Europe, Middle East & Africa, working with Salesforce partners to build a pipeline of talent by skilling up students and mid-career switchers who are new to Salesforce.

Brynna Evans

Kuumba Education Co-Founder

Brynna Evans is originally from Baltimore, Maryland USA, and became passionate about providing equal access to education at an early age. From being a camp counselor and mentoring students in low-income communities in Baltimore City, she came to value education as the ultimate equalizer in society. She went on to study Economics in University with a special focus on the impact of inequality from birth on economic opportunity for our world today and future generations. Brynna spent 2 years abroad living, working, and traveling in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and South America. She then joined the world of technology in San Francisco and ended up at Salesforce where she looks after strategic partnerships. From the beginning at Salesforce, she has worked closely with the Milano family and St. Martin’s - and is currently an Executive in Residence at African Leadership University.

Alfred Aswani

St. Martins School Program Liaison Manager

Alfred works as the Program Liaison Manager at the St Martins School in Nairobi, Kenya. He has 9 years of experience in accounting and believes in creating opportunities for the less privileged in society, especially the families and children of the Kibagare Community, a community that he's been working with closely for the last 3 years. Alfred feels extremely grateful for the opportunity to be a part of a cause that is transforming lives through education and technology.

Christine Kaburu

Board Member

Christine Kaburu, our newest Kuumba Education Board Member, is Head of Operations at Blue Consulting. She is committed to projects that directly impact her community. Being a part of the Salesforce ecosystem has provided the opportunity for her to do that through the Kuumba initiative, and to be able to reach and mentor beneficiaries. Christine mentored Modester, our first Kuumba Scholarship winner, through an internship with Blue Consulting in early 2020.

Sofia Milano

Student Recruitment & Recipient Relations

Sofia, a cybersecurity student at the University of Southern California, was the first youth volunteer at St Martins and helped greatly break down barriers between our group and the Kibagare settlement and its residents. She has recruited and identified very vulnerable children into the primary school through hands-on fieldwork. She supported the development of the first computer labs in st martins school and taught in the first English and math classes given to young children in the labs.

Isabel Milano

Scholar Advisor

Isa, an international neuroscience major, graduated from Claremont McKenna College in California in 2019 and currently works with the young adult and family center at UCSF Hospital on improving access and services to young adults in the mental health area. Isa is passionate about civil justice and gender rights. She acts as an advisor to Kuumba scholars and secondary students.

Maxima Milano

Contributor

As an aspiring environmental economics major, Maxima first visited Kibagare at the young age of 14, where she worked with a group looking at the water conditions for urban slum residents. This work revealed the high amount of bacteria in all water points and ultimately helped our group raise funds to dig a clean, on-site borehole which now gives 1000 students and 50 staff clean water daily. More recently, Maxima drove the proposal for creating a sustainable energy project at school and raised 40,000 euros to fund solar panels currently being installed aiding greatly in the schools' ability to become sustainable, reduce costs and provide better education, health, and nutrition.

Modester Mwangi

Salesforce Implementation Specialist

Modester Mwangi, our first Kuumba Scholarship recipient, is a Computer Science student at the African Leadership University Rwanda and is currently Interning with us as a Salesforce Implementations Specialist. She is now helping us in finishing up the Kuumba website and salesforce onboarding.
